Wharncliffe Allotments Composts Coffee Grounds.

Allotmenteer, Martin approached Becca Wilson (Manager) of the 53.3° North Coffee Company's (an artisan coffee company) newly opened outlet, operating out of Edge Hill University’s Catalyst building, serving staff and students with their unique blend of coffee.

The coffee grounds are the result of 53.3° North Company's sales of coffee, which are a favourite with both staff and students at the University.

Martin (Plot 14), collects the coffee grounds each evening, takes it to Wharncliffe Allotments (Liverpool), where it is added to compost to provide plots with a shot of nutrition (back to the soil). The coffee grounds will help our Allotmenteers grow healthy crops of fruit and vegetables.

Composting coffee grounds is as easy as throwing the used coffee grounds onto your compost pile. When adding ground coffee to your compost pile, you should remember, that waste ground coffee beans are considered green compost material and will need to be balanced with brown compost material.
