Wildlife-saving water stations

This year has been one of the UK's hottest summers on record, that’s why it’s important members remain hydrated throughout the day, drink plenty of water, especially when working your plots.

But also give a thought to our wildlife, they’re suffering too. With many watering holes drying-up through searing temperatures, we are asking our members to create fresh water stations.
Simple water station ideas:
A sheltered spot for an overturned bin-lid or similar, partially filled with water.
Bottle filled with water with a small pin-hole in the base where water can drip to ground level.
A water-tight dish or bowl, to hold a snug fitting sponge so that butterflies and other insects can draw-up water from.
A pond with a sloping platform (plank of wood), leading to the water’s edge, to allow bees to drink safely.
Check your water stations regularly, they may need topping-up daily.
Don’t forget, we also need to protect our feathered friends. For more information on ways you can help birds, visit the RSPB website.
