Time for reminiscing

A spell of good weather is always welcome, the last few days has been glorious.

It got me thing about the things I like about Wharncliffe Allotments, feeling close to nature, growing and eating your own fruit and vegetables, the people you meet who soon become your friend. Now, that’s what it means to be a member of an Allotment.

Just recently we set-up the Wharncliffe Allotments YouTube Channel, its early days yet, but we have a few videos taken during Open Days and an interview with our Allotment Secretary, Jan.

Whilst uploading the videos you are reminded of the fun we’ve had working as a team and the people who are no longer with us. Most recently we lost Bill, and Stan.

Stan was a quiet, easy-going man, he would often be seen riding his bike to and from Wharncliffe Allotments. A man of few words, Stan would nod to acknowledge you, then continue on to his plot.

Bill, formally Wharncliffe Allotments' Treasurer, always willing to get involved with Allotment events and activities, keen to help and discuss ideas, give tips and friendly advice. We miss Bill for his conversation and beaming smile.
