At Wharncliffe Allotments, we believe everyone can learn about where food comes from, no matter how young or old you are. We believe in encouraging everyone to experience what it means to live off the land.

What better way to satisfy the minds of young children than to show them that the food doesn't just comes from the local supermarket. Ava and Abbi had a lovely day getting their hands dirty on Grandad Syd's plot, hearing from Jan (Wharncliffe Allotments Secretary), about the the benefits worms bring to the soil and for turning waste into compost. Ava and Abbi where also introduced to the site's hens by Vitalis (pictured here) on his plot.
The girls where aslo treated to a freshly layed egg each, which they took home and cooked. Abbi prefers her eggs scrambled, Ava isn't a lover of eggs...more for Abbi then!
