Wharncliffe Allotments' Allotmenteers are marking National Gardening Weekwith a few tips to get you up and about in your garden.

This week is dedicated our gardens and an opportunity to keep active. Gardening is said to have many health benefits, so now is the time to take advantage by getting your garden ready for spring.
Here are three simple steps to help get you started:
Start by pulling-up weeds before they get too much of a hold, you be glad you did later, an early start here makes it much easier to mange weeds later in the season.
Next, tidy your boarders; use a lawn edge tool or a good sharp spade, to trim boarder edges to give them definition against the garden lawn.
There’s still time to mulch the boarders, this help with weed control and protect plants from the cold. Other benefits include retains water, so less watering for you to do! A good quality organic mulch will breakdown over time, the nutrients contribute to healthier soil.
